Schwinn are now in their second generation of ebikes with the Marshall, Coston CE and DX. It’s easy to see the affordable quality when you see a Schwinn. I think the battery built into the bottom tube looks cool. Throw a better battery and a better controller on it, and I bet you can get a whole lot more than 250W out of the motor as well. In regards to battery life and range, once again the Coston DX falls behind the pack. Some similarly priced e-bikes like the Juiced RipCurrent S, for example, have ranges upward of 70 miles on a single charge. The Coston DX claims to have a range of up to only 45 miles, but in my experience it was actually well short of this. The Schwinn Coston DX is a Class 2 e-bike, which means that it has a throttle that is capable of reaching up to 20 mph without pedaling. Second, when you brake, same thing -- the juice cuts off. These things do take some getting used to, but with repeated tests became expected, second nature behaviors of the bike. Then again -- the bike is still a functioning piece of equipment once the battery is dead, so maybe we should all stop being so lazy. The Schwinn Tailwind uses a Shimano eight-speed gearset in the rear hub, its schwinn ebike limited gear ratio making the bike mostly suitable for flat areas. Cantilever brakes grab the rims for stopping power, although with the price of this bike, we would expect disc brakes. Such a feature is fairly inaccurate all things considered, but some estimate is better than no estimate. Nothing feels cheap, plastic-y, or vulnerable to quick failure. It all seems like a robust and well-built electric bike. You also get two different frame sizes to choose from, which is a big upgrade over the single one-size-fits-all frames that many e-bike companies still offer.
